just giving some people an idea on how to mount the hi-lift. this took me about 5 minutes. it may not be centered yet but i wanted it on there for not. basically i took a 4 inch long bolt, 5/16 and threaded it from the underside of the hood, then i put a washer and bolt top hold it place. then another bolt and a washer to keep it from resting on the hood. then another washer and bolt to keep it from bouncing around. i wanted a grade 8 bolt but they didnt have ones that had threads all the way down it.
yeah iam going to get some metal wire and hold it there although, the stock clip holds it fine. looks close tot he paint it isnt. i just threw it up there to see how it looked
i'm here to warn you though, those bolts will break. i know b/c mine did after about a year. luckily it was off road... and only one broke... but my buddy has been running his for almost 2 years now with 3/8" grade 8's and had no problems.... just thought i'd pass that on
-Erik <---- won't run anything other than grade 8 now
Rubber stoppers from Lowe's, about 3" diameter and 1" thick, drilled out and placed on top of the hood would keep the jack from rocking back and fourth; thus, preventing the bolts from shearing, spreading the load, and absorbing impact. Mine has been that way for some time without bending the hood, breaking or doing any other scarey things. :cheers2:
thought I was going to have to be the first one to say it. Even with grade 8 bolts, you hit something at speed and it will rip right off the hood with the bolts attached to it...think big red bullet.

I used to want to put one there. Then I realized it's more fun to lay the windshield down. So the HI-Lift stays on the trailer with the spare. If I get a flat on the street one of my friends can bring the stuff to me
the rubber "mount" idea is a great one. you could actually PULL the hi-lift down against the rubber tight onto the hood.... that would keep the grade 8 bolts stressed in a way they were designed to do and would be pretty long term i would think... i can't see the bolts sheering then.....
i searched for about an hour last night trying to find someone who's jack broke off in an accident.... couldn't find anyone... my bolt that sheered off was actually the only account i found admitting a problem with this design (a problem easily resolved).
i lost my hi-lift... wasn't going to buy a new one, but one of those black and gold ones would look even better than the red one did on my hood!
