how to fix weather stripping
I have a 94 wrangler with full doors. I have attempted to replace the rubber weatherstripping that goes around the door. The first set I bought was way too big. I contacted quadratec where I bought it from and they sent me out a new set. The drivers side door weatherstripping fit much better but the passenger door weatherstripping was still too big. I have read somewhere about cutting it to fit and using special weatherstripping glue to glue it together. Has anyone done this and can kind of walk me through it. It would be cheaper to cut it down then pay shipping to sent it back.

The new weather strip will appear too "big" because the oem was so bad.
I replaced all of mine last winter and had the same issue.
I think cutting the weather strip would be foolish.

It depends on if he means too big=too fat or too big=too long. If it's too long, I would think you could trim it at the corners and glue it back together.

as for the adhesive, yes 3M (and I think Permatex too) makes a weatherstrip adhesive... most auto parts stores should have one of them in stock... either in a tube like you put in a caulk gun, and/or a smaller squeeze tube like toothpaste

What Sean said. 3M makes a good product and iy comes in yellow or black. Since the yellow looks like elephant snot, I would choose the black. Follow directions, make sure the talcum like powder on the strip has been completely removed before attempting to glue the strip down.

To clarify it is too long. I have to bunch it up in a corner to get it to fit and then the door won't close right. I did email quadratec to see what to do.

I have the same problem. I have yet to cut it to close better its atleast 2-3 too long. The push pegs are spaced correctly and the corners fit well. My problem showed up around the door latch area.

The time now is 01:28 AM.
