How far does your choke plate go?

Hi all,

I installed a rebuilt Carter BBD carb on my 89 YJ 4.2 and I just cannot get it to idle or run right. I have adjusted the idle a million times, set the timing many time and I still get a mostly rich setting (black smoke, black plugs) that bogs and dies. It got me thinking of the choke plate. My WOT choke plate position is only at a little better than 45 degree angle. Should it be at a full 90 degrees when running hot and open? If so, how do I adjust the choke plate to do it? It's got that electric choke thing on the carb. Any ideas? I need to get it running soon for the nasty swedish inspection so I'm getting a little worried. Thanks. This site has got me through a load of newbie problems.
