Low output is stock with 22 horsepower, High output has about $3000 worth of aftermarket parts bolted to it, and makes 24-1/2 horsepower.

They're ALL low output! LOL, I had the decal on mine that said 2.5L Low Output, matches OEM 4.0L decal. People would ask me if it came from factory that way and laugh

There is no 2.5L High Output. Only in your mind.

They are all low output.
"High-output" was really a term given to the 4.0L when it transitioned from Renix fuel injection to Chrysler MPFI.
There are 2.5L High Output and 2.5L Low Ouput stickers floating around but those never came from Jeep.

Mine is a high output. It is stock and will go down the interstate at 80 mph with 35's.

You know it. It is the only way to get any power out of a 2.5. Mine has 185,000 and still going strong, I can't kill it. I was doing donuts in the sand bouncing off of the rev limiter and it wouldn't blow. I have a 5.0 Ford to put in it when it lets go.

So what? Old CJ-5s had a 3 speed tranny and geared for stump pulling...top speed about 60mph. Jeeps have/should never be about top speed. You want speed? Buy a Mustang GT.

High output must be refering to the change from TBI to Multiport injection in 1991. It gives you a whopping 15 extra ponies. Any for your jealous 4.0l take a look at my pic and remember don't piss off my 4 angry squirrels! LOL

The low output one is the one with the restrictor plate, they used them to keep the rear axles together during the warranty period.
