how do you check if the posi lock is working
I have had four wheel drive issues for a while. I don't know if I have ever been 4w continously. It had a posi lock when I bought it. The posi lock lever in the vehicle has a strange (i think from a weight machine) pull. I pull it and then put the car in 4h or lo. But it seems that it goes in and out of 4wd. The other day I got stuck on the trail in the snow. Someone who was spotting me noticed that the drive shaft was spinning but my front tires were not. Could this be the posi lock or something else? How do I check it?

To test it put the Jeeps tcase in 2HI. Set the parking brake.. engine off.
Disengage the Posilock. You should be able to spin the front driveshaft by hand. Now engage the Poislock. You shouldn't be able to spin the front driveshaft now. If the front driveshaft can be spun by hand with the Posilock "engaged" then there is a problem with it. |

When I engage my POSI I usally shift the tcase first and then pull back on the posi. Keep pulling and let the jeep roll, the posi will come out an additional 1/4 inch. Then I know for sure I am engaged.

funny so many people are so quick to disconnect the vacuum actuator. i never had a problem with mine and the action is instant on and off. Ive had quite a bit of trouble with other peoples "posi-locks."

Thanks for the input.
I tried the method below and it appears that it is working.... I am going to pull the way posi the way it was suggested to see if it makes it any better. Any other suggestions on what the problem might be? Quote:

Open it up and check the shift fork itself, mine was starting to crack around where the cable attaches, and was beginning to work intermittently, then it stopped working altogether. I find that engaging the axle while rolling slow works best.
