How do I Remove Shifter from Tranny? Tranny Brace Question as well
So I'm am in mid process of my clutch replacement and I cant see how to remove my shift lever/shaft:
![]() ![]() any suggestions on how to remove it ?also, in order to remove the tranny I had to cut the bolts holding up the tranny brace to the frame (all bolts where rusted, and if i did get them loose they just spun in the frame) So I am left to face with the issue of some how re-bracing the tranny to the frame (I do not have a welder handy or near by) any suggestions? I was thinking of getting some steel and just making it so it goes across the tranny and u-bolt it to the frame, and then when I can get out to my buddies house and weld something together

none?
I have the book, and it offers no useful suggestions. it says the shift lever is suppose to be a push and turn counterclockwise on the base of the shifter.

from thread: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/take-off-transmission-change-slave-cylinder-820824/index2.html#post7631355
After I take the 3 bolts/screws out (which i have done) , should I pull up? Ive been looking and some threads say that there are suppose to be snap ringss, Im not seeming them on mine, but I guess I could clean it up a bit better and see if they are just hidden

Got my eye on you.....

I am looking thru the info I have now. I know the AX-15 is a push down turn and pull up setup but I am fairly certain that the BA-10, what you have, is bolted down.

your shifter should pull straight out after removing the three bolts just did mine last week during a t-case change. from your pic it appears you have alot of krud around yours, might give it a shot of PB or WD-40

I cleaned a good portion of the crap out from around where the shaft goes in... I sprayed a whole bunch of PB around the base of the shifter and surrounding and let it soak. It wouldnt pull, I got it to budge a-little but no more then 1/4inch, so I put a pry bar and try'd to pop it off with no success.
Should I just more PB and let it sit longer? This damn lever is killing me, thank god its only going to be cold and not rainy tomorrow (motorcycle is my only other vehicle)

I had the same problem on a BA10 swap, it was rust frozen in. Luckly my new-used one came with a shifter. I think your best bet is to take a torch to it to try and use heat to break the rust bond.

After tugging, heating, pb blasting I got the shift lever off. the catch, the retainer clips stayed in as well as the sealer/hold-down (see pic below, arrows are pointing to and on the piece)
![]() any ideas on getting it out? Ive been heating and pb soaking the beating (well really just tapping) hell-outta it. not a budge though...

That metal flange looks like some sort of dust cover to me. My mazda had something similar for the drum breaks. Ended up ****ing up a small flat head screw driver while I used a hammer and chiseled away at it. Some PB blaster around the edges would help loosen up the gunk, but I don't know if you want PB getting into your transmission.
