How To Check Spark - By Yourself

Any tricks you guys have to check spark by yourself. Obviously turning the key and putting a wire next to the engine block would require 15' arms - which I don't have.

I'm struggling with a no start problem and need to see if I'm getting spark.

Wife is at work and my neighbor is on vacation.

Can you rig up a timing light with a rubber band holding the trigger down? When the timing light flashes you will know that cylinder is firing.

just block the wheels. Put the jeep in neutral.. hook a wire to the small stud on the starter (you can just wrap it around it if you need to)... double check that its in neutral again... Turn key to on position... go back under jeep and Touch wire to + side of battery. Starter should turn and you should be able to see if you have spark or not

Thanks.

Note to self - buy a timing light.

Sadly, I don't own one of these... yet. Maybe it's because we can't adjust the timing on a FI YJ?
