homemade lift shackles/steering issues?

Im thinking about making my own lift shackles, just looking at a 1inch lift, I know that to get 1inch u need to go 2inches longer on the shackle, but as for the cross peice , does it only offset in the back and is it to the top or bottom? my second question is in going with a 1in lift shackle , will i notice it in my steering or my rear drive shaft angles? Any ideas on how long to make the cross peice, to get the proper width for the bushings? I have a rough idea but just looking for some opinions, any help greatly apreciated in advance.

For the set I made I used a steel bushing spacer from a old set of springs. Just make sure it clears the spring on the bottom and hanger on the top. you have about a 50/50 chance of it affecting your steering.

Crosspiece? who needs a crosspiece?

If ya want something simple... I just used 2"x1/2" straight flat stock. No need for cross pin... very beefy. Doubtful you'll ever bend 1/2" thick shackles. Been beating the crap out of 'em for years.
Unless your looking for a boom style, what I did works fine.
