How long is the peice of pipe running parallel to the hood from bend to bend?
I bought a 10ft peice of pipe and am bending my own 180' U shape, but need to know how long that peice of strait pipe is so that the hook-up for the pipe will be in the same spot on the hood as yours is.

The simple answer is about 13.5 inches of straight pipe before either side starts to bend at all.
Just out of curiosity do you have or have access to a mandrel bender? If not the bends won't fit together to weld, you would have to bend it in one continuous piece. Not to mention how tight of a bend it is.

I'm taking the whole 10ft piece to be bent at a shop because our bender only bends up to 2 1/2" pipe
There will be no welds (except for mounting bracket) and the pipe will be one continuous piece.I'll have them leave me a few inches on each end (hood/snorkel top) to work with after I try bolting it up.

This snorkel looks killer and it WAY better than any other home made snorkel i have seen so far (wich usually lool totally ghetto...!) . I have to say that as for looks and fit, it comes really really close to my Safari (wich i am very happy of).
If i can tell you the only thing i dislike about your snorkel, well it's missing a curve at the very top. Where the cap goes in, there is another curve so the front intake grill sits at an angle, and the top's flat surface sits parallel to the ground. Yours has the pipe straight and this leaves the snorkel head at an angle (wich looks just wrong). I had my snorkel for quite some time now and so i noticed this at the very first look at your picture. What i have to say is that since you had this thing putted togheter so nicely, i think you should really put a last effort in this and redo just the top end with a curve in it so the head sits right where it should and not angled like that (i think i understood you have some bend leftover?). After you do this, the snorkel will look killer and perfect!!! Double thumbs up, and enjoy thrill free river crossings. This mod made my Jeep way more enjoyable where i ride usually!!! |

That looks pretty good, I wonder why all the TJ ones I see are on the pass. side, I think it looks best on drivers side. Great job man!

In addition to my airbox being on the drivers side my main concern was the antenna conflict on my pass side. I also thought it would increase visibility to have it away from my field of vision and on the pass side. But the way its mounted it is almost invisible from inside except for a little bit of the ARB top.

Well that is understandable and all but the intake is on the driver's side so why drape the air hose over the hot engine? Crazy DC...

Almost done recreating this snorkel!
I just can't decide what to do as far as the snorkel top, Hummer or ARB?

Can you put a drain area in it say after a major rainstorm, so you could drain any water pooled in at a say designated droop in the design?

How long is this total, including bends? I want to do this with one solid piece, what length should I use?
