Disengaging the locking collar while in 4WD with an Aussie locker would give you 3WD. Max ![]()

yep. and 3 wd doesnt drive straight, but it allows you to turn with a lincoln locked front

My Posi-lock has worked alright. However I had some trouble in some mud at the bottom of a loose packed hill because it slipped out of 4WD. I had my buddy pull me out, realized my 4WD had turned off and re-engaged it. Got up the hill just fine afterward.
Even if I get into a situation where my posi-lock won't work and I really need 4WD, I can just crawl underneath and shift the shift fork and collar into the engaged position.

Don't trust loctite in a situation where it is constantly bathed in hot oil. What I did is put some high temp rtv in the cable ends before I tightened them, then crimped the threads onto the bolt. This way I can take it apart if I need to, but the chances of an accidental slippage are slim if I got the end on there tight enough in the first place.

I'm trying to trouble shot my 4wd problem now. If the vacuum isn't working when I engage 4wd the two rear tires plus the driver front will get power. Is this correct?

After fooling with my home-made kit many times with no success I broke down and bought the real kit. The real kit has a much beefier cable and doesn't involve a spring (which is where my problems were) so hopefully this will be the last time i have to fix this, but it seems many people have still done the home version and had success so i say just try it and see if you like it - and if not you can also just try the real one. I will post back with my experiences between the two after install.

I only did one hole in the fork when I did mine and had no issues at all with it.

Just one w/ a cable stop. it worked sometimes, but way to inconsistantly for me-that's the reason for the switch

Save yourself the inconsistency of a home made setup buy a posi lok... I did and couldn't be happier... The home made jobby was pissin me off too frequently of course it would have been better if I made it but I didn't.
