Home made front axle disconnect

I’m trying to do the home made front axle disconnect or posilock, whatever you want to call it. I drive a 95 I-4 Wrangler. I took the vacuum motor off yesterday and some fluid ran out so I put it back on because I have to drive it and didn’t have all the stuff ready to complete the job. I’m guessing that is just axle fluid but I don’t know what kind or how much it holds when I have to refill it? Also, is there a gasket on the housing that I’m going to need to replace when I do this?

I mad my own homemede Posi-lok. All the materials cost me $20.00. Best thing I ever did. The only problem I have is that I need a better lever to activate it. I love the fact that it's so easy and you know for sure when it's on. I also love that my 4WD light still comes on when it's activated. Piece of mind.

I just did this last weekend. i followed the instructions posted in the link above but i used a push mower throttle kit that I got from lowes. Also the gasket is apparently nonexistent, i had to make one out of some gasket paper and RTV. Good luck.

SIDE NOTE, you need to open the fill plug on the diff and fill it till fluid runs out with gear old. Any 80 weight will do, you just need to get that filled before you are driving around in it after loosing fluid.

THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

I used one very similar, I bought it at the local Napa in the HELP section, it was listed as a 9' locking choke cable (about $17). Looks like this one functions the same as mine.

This is where I mounted mine....

Thanks for all the help everybody, finally got around to doing this yesterday and completed today. Works great, I'm glad I decided to go with this route instead of buying expensive replacement parts. The only question I have now is what am I supposed to do with the vacuum system? Should I leave the vacuum lines plugged up to my vacuum motor or should I unlplug it? Should I plug these vacuum lines altogether?

Thanks again, Travis

Plug em up. You need to do it at the tcase, and where it connects into the manifold vac system on the engine. Your gonna loose your 4wd light in the process though.

the light should still function as normal , it is not vac. operated . The electrical plug on the disco is for the light , leave it plugged in just remove the vac. lines or plug them .

This is more of a rhetorical post but this is essentially the same thing as the 4X4 posi lock that quadratec has for 220 bucks? This is amazing that some figured it out for 20 bucks. Just want to say way to go.
