Nice.... I'm thinking of doing something similar real soon. What did you use for the pivot hinge? Does it rattle?

That looks sweet.

How hard was it to make? How much did it cost you? what did you use to keep it shut??? What kind of welder did you use on it?

thanks. i painted it saturday and left it in the shop over night so i haven't driven it much. i couldn't hear any rattles, at least none over the dynomax roaring, soft top flapping, hood latches squeaking,b.f.g's howling, and Korn screaming. but i will let you know.
it is made of 4"x2"x3/16" steel, With 1/2 pipe welded in side of both ends, (right side for the hinge and a pin through the lift holds it closed) the up right is 2-1/2"od.and 2"id steel (going to be an accessory receiver, for a rack)i used a mig. welder to hold it all together and box in the ends(except for the one in the up right for the receiver) teflon washers keep down the friction in the hinge.i have about $100.00 in steel and paint, i also made the bumper that it is mounted to.

Holy diamond plating BatMan! That's alot of shine on your rig!

Are the 1/2 doors all diamond plate, or are they normal doors just re-covered?

the doors are coverd in diamond plate, i cut it out with a jigsaw. i have a nasty dent under the right hand door. and a new door was just too much money.

Hey BlackYJ- that CJ is my great uncle's....he's had it forever and it was literally falling apart- seats fell out while jeepin on the beach...rustbucket u know- so he finally decided to have it redone. Brought it Toy Box Jeeps down in Florida www.toyboxjeeps.com is their website (awesome restoration Specialty CJ's and others) So he had a brand new tub made of fiberglass with steel impregnated inside it. That pic is just in the places lot, it wasn't even totally finished there...Sweet Jeep, ey?

Yea, You probably could sell those to other Jeepers.

This may be a dumb question, but where would I buy some tubed steel to make me a bumper out of?

Also, take a look in your Yellow Pages under "steel" "metal fabricators" "fabrication".. etc.
