You can go with the Holly 390 but you will need the offenhauser intake for the 4.2 from JC Whitney. The intake is about $240. I am not aware of any adapter for the stock manifold to a Holly and even if there was. I would be very leary. Hope this helps..Scot

I have a 500 CFM Holley 360 on my 88 4.2, original manifold.
Obviously had to Nutter, and I used a 12 dollar carb adapter from Autozone. Had to fab up linkage peices and bracket mounts. Initially I liked it a lot. More power doesn't stall. No more carter hassles. But if I had to do it again, I'd say spend the extra 60 bucks and buy a webber. Much less hassle and a better carb. The minor vac leaks in the 4.2 are not to noticable on the webber, but on the holley they keep your idle up around 1400 and are a real nightmare to root out and solve. Good luck. |

I have a holley 2300 on my 88 yj with an auto zone adapter that I had to drill the bolt holes out to fit. runs great. I had a webber 38/38 and it sucked. could never get it running rite.

I have the Webber 34 DGEC. I haven't been able to get it to run right. At first I thought it was just an old worn out engine. I replaced the engine with a rebuilt one, but I could never get the Webber to run right on it either. It guess it wasn't the engine!?! Now I'm looking at an adapter plate and an old Ford 2bl carb.

I was also running the Weber 34, what a pile of junk. I went with a Holley 350cfm 2 barrel I picked on Ebay for $30. I used a Mr.Gasket adapter plate, had to silicone to stop the vacuum leaks. I also had to custom fab the linkage using a bellcrank. I have an auto and cruise control so I had to retain the factory linkage.
