Ok, I did some reading and it appears using any ford motor will give me more hell than I tend to deal with..

So, I wanting something that'll be close to the stock length, because I just bought a new shaft for the rear, and do not want to do it again. (hopefully it'll match up) so I did some measuring of a few auto. chevy transmissions I have in mind, so what I need to know now for my measurements that I can't find with google is what's the length of a chevy 350?

Appearently I can somewhat decide where the driveline will be sitting as long as I'm clear from the fire wall and radiator, so I could probably make it work to where I won't have to replace the shafts.

I also plan to keep on using the 231, and if anything, build it up.

As for the Carb. I'll end up using the Truck Avenger.

Thanks again for the help.
By the way, does anyone know off hand how long the I6 is? (I can find out tomorrow, but curious.)

let the pinion angle be your determining factor on your drivetrain, NOT your rear driveshaft lenth alone.... you bought a new shaft. cograts. sell it on eBay... get what money out of it you can while it's still "new" and shorten a cherokee driveshaft to use for your rear OR just bite the bullet and accept that your new driveshaft shall soon be put through the ringer. it's pretty easy to shorten or lenthen a driveshaft... and it's VERY inexpensive to get it balanced once your done welding it.....

good luck! pics are a must.

mine fit no problem

I put a 460 in a 87 yj it fit no problem. Retained the inner fenders and have no fire wall issues. If you have a 78 or 79 bronco that's a great donor for parts. I push around 500hp and haven't had any frame issues. My YJ is more Ford than jeep. Axels drive shafts t case trans front coils coil buckets pitman arm locator bar radius arms / brackets all came from 79 bronco. If your still interested in that build let me know. Id be glad to talk or send pictures. Email is mcs1369@yahoo.com
