hitting bumps on highway at 55mph + causes terrible shaking

It happens every so often, always when I have a hot chic in my ride (or so it seems). I'll be driving along, hit a small imperfection in the road and there it goes. My steering wheel starts shaking and the whole jeep seems to shake like crazy. It lasts as long as I'll let it. I used to turn of the jeep as soon as it happened and that would stop it, but one day I did that and my key wouldn't turn back to start, and I drifted through three lanes of traffic until I hit the guard going 45. I now just slow the jeep down until it stops. I start to get back up to speed, but when I hit tiny, small little bumps my steering wheel shakes and I scares the piss out of me, so I slow down.

I'm at a loss. I don't think its the motor mounts. I don't know if this makes a difference but my engine is slanting backwards (higher in front, and lower toward teh firewall) Some one help please!!!

You might want to check the U-Joints on the front & rear drive shafts. If there is alot of play in any of them then that might be your problem. That is the only thing I can think of off hand.

Sounds like your steering stabilizer. Also check all your tie rod ends.If there loose, replace them.

Hope this helps.

I checked the steering stabilizer, and all is well there, I will get my jeep on the lift at school as soon as possible to check the tie rods. How would I check the U joints for play? I'll have it on the lift, so I might as well check those.
