I picked up my hi lift at tractor supply for about $60.00. Do you really want to be working on your vehicle with a chance of the jack breaking? The extra money would seem well spent at this time. Free clues & suggestions ![]() Join Date: May 2004 Location: San Diego, CA Posts: 6,657 | You might want to try doing some yahoo/google etc searches and try using "cheap junk jack" or "junk chinese jack" or "POS Chinese jack" or "imitation hilift jack". Key here is to use search words that reflect what folks often have to say about those (or similar other knockoff) jacks. I have read countless posts over the years which discounted using/buying a cheap knockoff Hilift. Safety issues seemed to be the biggest concern. IMO, Hilift jacks are dangerous enough in-of-themselves unless very carefull operation and use is taken. I wouldn't settle for something less. I have a Hilift jack. I use to carry it attached to my Canyon City can & tire carrier for ~11 years. In those 11+ years, I think I used it 3 times. It now sits in the corner of my garage & I use the handle as a breaker bar frequently. I carry 2 bottle jacks instead. Almost never deep mud where I usually wheel. |

Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 5,791 | joe's point was very good and i think overlooked by many.... you don't need a hi-lift 90% of the time.... a bottle jack or regular ol hydraulic jack will work just fine in the driveway and most of the time it'll do just fine on the trial. most people buy hi-lifts b/c they think they are necessary...... I think I've used mine 3 or 4 times since i've had it.... on the other hand i've used the bottle jack out on the trails once or twice and the regular old hydraulic jack in my driveway 1,000 times..... maybe the better question would be, do you need a jack? if so, do you really need a hi lift? or would a safer smaller jack work better for your needs? __________________ '89 Wrangler, 4.0/AW4, 106" Wheelbase, SOA, custom XJ packs, 2" Body. Registered User | If you ask me Hi-lifts are dangerous enough. Why add to it by using a Chinese knock off. __________________ Brew City Crawlers The TY-7 '95 YJ 2.5L Auto, SOA front, 4 linked 8.8, TJ coils, detroit, 4.56, siped 35" BFG MT's, CJ front end, 7" TJ flares, flush euro tails The Station Wagon '90 XJ, 3" lift on Rubi Moabs & MT/r's |

Web Wheeler Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: san diego Posts: 6,120 | I have the harbor freight version and used it to lift a corner of my house plus I bent the handle a little using a cheater pipe on it while trying to pull out a stump. So far, so good. I do like to wooden handle on the old, old original version though. Just makes it a little lighter. my 2 cents. |

Registered User | Been burned too many times by "made in china". Bought an automatic pipe threader to find the casting was so porous it sprayed the room with cutting fluid if you attempted to use it. Sent it back and bought the Rigid. Then picked up a standing mill in which the cast frame cracked shortly after delivery allowing the motor to throw the belt if you cut anything heavier than say...paper. Sent it back and bought a Bridgeport. I don't say everything made in China is crap.......ok so I do, but China and cast parts don't mix and I will refuse to buy the two in conjunction. When you're talking about a $10.00 price difference why the hell would anyone else? __________________ Brew City Crawlers The TY-7 '95 YJ 2.5L Auto, SOA front, 4 linked 8.8, TJ coils, detroit, 4.56, siped 35" BFG MT's, CJ front end, 7" TJ flares, flush euro tails The Station Wagon '90 XJ, 3" lift on Rubi Moabs & MT/r's |
