When i hit about 2200rpm all the sudden it starts to sputter and surge alittle bit. it only does it when its under load. If i am out of gear just sitting it will rev out with no issue. just 2 days ago i had no problems at all it ran great. I have a 4.2 with the crap carter carb and a nutter bypass. anybody have any ideas?
your cat could be getting clogged. it will not be too bad at first but eventually you won't be able to move. you could try unbolting the cat and seeing if that makes it go away. if it does leave it off if you don't have any inspections or anything. if you do have inspections buy a new cat and make sure its welded in because if it isn't it will disappear. (worth about $60 a pop at the scrap yard)

i have the 2.5 l but i was just having this same exact issue at aroun 40-55 mph or so. It was only while accelerating. i tried replacing TPS, then cleaning IAC...neither of these worked but we did smoke test and found throttle body was shot. So I will be replacing the throttle body and seeing if that helps. so maybe check some of that stuff, im not sure how youre engine is different but thoght i would throw in what i knew.
so i decided to try the team rush upgrade, I figured even if it doesn't fix it it will be a nice addition. I have only driven it once after the install but it is a whole new jeep. no more sputter and all the sudden it feels like it can rev out a lot farther. But i still shift at about 3g at the most. but wow i am happy with the way it runs and how fast it fires up now. tomorrow i plan to change my catalytic converter and make an exaust from some we have at work
cool. I will need to find what the team rush upgrade is lol. Im gonna cut out my catalytic converters.
