high steer kit needed?
just wanted to get some opinions on this, my buddy informed me that i may need to look into a high-steer kit for my 5" BDS springs. Total i will be running about 5.5-6" of lift w/ my 5/8" MORE shackles. Anyone know if this will be needed or knows someone who has had to put one on. I really can't fab one up b/c im not that mechanically inclined, any kits out there that may be worth looking into?

High steer couldnt hurt the Jeep. But, I think that you will be ok, unless you are going SOA. I think you will need a drop pitman arm though.

you dont have to go highsteer but you can do a tie rod flip with inserts from
goferit products. you will still need to do a little fab work and the d30 steering arms are low on the knuckle but it will raise it up.

this thread for reference. I don't *THink* it would be needed. at very minimal, drop pitman arm. maybe tie rod flip as mentioned above, that's probably a good idea. anybody w/ 5" lift w/ experience on this? if it's needed, not needed. Pics. ![]() |

I run the BDS 4.5 with 4wd shackles that say 1" but are less, run the flipped tie rod setup with a stock pitman arm. I'll try to get a pic here...

this is sitting flat in my driveway granted the arms on my outer knuckles are higher than a d30 but you get the idea.

The rocky road highsteer kit is the best kit i've EVER seen... I own it and it made my steering BETTER THAN STOCK... I'm running 36" tires, Spring Over Conversion (4" of lift) along with 2.5" springs, and 1 1/4 shackles... So more or less 8 total inches of lift. A dropped pitman arm simply isn't enough, i've got a drop pitman arm WITH my high steer kit and this allowed me to bolt my skid plate directly to the frame, I have no spacers (transfer case drop)what-so-ever...
Although the rocky road kit is expensive as heck... it was worth every single penny in my case... I love it to death, wouldn't give it up for anything. |
