High Steer Arms, TRE's and hardware received today from PARTS MIKE. Questions....
so i just opened the box all excited and figgity and then my face dropped....
i guess i should have asked more questions because this is not what i expected.... i have the two arms.... which look almost identical to sky's medium arms pictured here: ![]() and if i had been paying attention i would have seen that the PartsMike setup runs the draglink to the tie rod.... as opposed to having the drag link go to the passenger side high steer arm and the tie rod going to a 2nd hole on the same high steer arm.... then the driver's side high steer arm would have the tie rod going there.... obviously. well my dilemma is that i wanted to do this ONCE, and do it RIGHT.... hence the reason i spent so much money on the components. well the parts mike way obviously works for tons of people, and i'm sure it would work for me.... BUT.... wouldn't it be a stronger system if the drag link went to the high steer arm as opposed to the tie rod? im beginning to think i should have gotten the sky manufacturing setup ![]() so, what are you opinions? what are the pros and cons of this type of setup? and of the other setup? i wanted a true high steer system, which is what i was told i was getting, hence the reason for buying two high steer arms as opposed to one... but this appears to be just a fancy crossover steering setup. sky has these arms.... damn it... did i screw this up already? ![]() that -Erik

I dont see how it will hurt anything. In fact, I just ordered the same kit you did (well the tie rod kit, not the arms) I am gonna be putting them on my YJ.
But you are getting true high clearance steering. Crossover steering is where the drag link attaches to a arm on top of the knuckle on the passenger side, but the tie rod stays attached in the stock locations on the knuckles. Tre high clearance is where both the drag link and tie rod use the arms on top of the knuckles, getting them up out of the way of things. I dont really think it matters weather its attached to the tre or the arm, its still gonna basicly work the same. I have a un related question though. How long did it take for you to get your stuff from parts mike? I ordered my kit like monday or tuesday of last week. And here it is the end of this week and no parts? If they dont come tomorrow I am gonna have to call and see whats up. I am thinking they should be here by now. I called in the order and paied by credit card.

gotcha. thanks for the very sensible explanation. i think i was just heated when i got it because the day i ordered everything i was really confused as to what i shoudl get and i thought i was getting something i didn't.... i do know that he said that he was sending me a setup that would work perfect for my application though, and he knows his stuff, so i guess i'm just overreacting since i didn't educate myself well enough prior to purchasing.....
i ordered my stuff last wednesday the 13th. it came via ups ground today. i didn't track it to see when he actually shipped it but he said he was shipping it that day. he's coming from cali though and as much as i hate to admit, shipping delays seem to plague me whenever i go into or come out of cali.... i was in the same boat as you earlier today and considered calling... and 5 minutes later, ups pulled up. -Erik <--- is very happy with the purchase after considering the alternatives i had

IIRC you got you front 44 from a ford right. I do not think those arms will work with ford Knuckles. If you went and bought GM knuckles just ignore the above post.
But it looks like you have room to drill and taper a hole for the drag link on the passenger side.

I have the parts mike kit installed on my YJ both arms, and I went with the 1 ton TRE's.
Mentioned all ready you could have a hole taper drilled for the draglink to attach, but unless you plan to run 37's and up with ram assisted sterring I do not think you will be breaking anything. BTW FWIW my YJ steers better now sprung over with 35's than it did sprung under with 31's major difference and I like it; well to a degree the steering feels a little to lit to me that I may just put a dampner on to add some resistence. |

i'm running 39.5" boggers now but i'm taking it down to 38" tsl's but have no plans for any hydro assist since this is my daily driver and hardly ever sees big rocky terrain. mostly trails, mud, and small rocks... thanks!

Sell that junk to some noob and get the right stuff man.
Theres nothing worse then having a big fat hole in the middle of your tie rod. Am I right or am I right? I have a D44 sitting my garage with the highsteer arms and the passenger side has two holes that were milled out to fit the Teraflex tie rod and drag link. Send it back man.

worst case, down the road i'll have to replace one arm and make a new drag link and tie rod... but i don't think it will come down to that. thanks for all those pictures, they really helped. i could see everything i needed to see and i'm extremely excited about putting this all together. i'm pretty excited to see how high the tie rod sits. way out of harm's way. does anyone cut off the factory arms that the tie rod and drag link used to go to? is there a reason? my angle grinder likes to cut things that aren't needed.....

the rock light idea is cool but i've already got a heap of tabs for cheap lights i was planning to weld on the frame once i finally make an extension cord for this 220v beast....
i was wondering if maybe people left them for strenth reasons or whatnot... but if it's just b/c people are lazy, dont know how to cut them off and have it look good, or leave them for rigging up some sort of make shift way down the trail, i think i'll cut them....
