Help Replacing Dana 44 Front axle shaft seals

I have a dana 44 out of a 77 bronco.

I am replacing the right and left axle shaft seals.

I have removed the old seals.

I bought replacement seals from autozone. Here is a pic of one of the seals.

How do I get the seal to stay in? There is about 1/8in gap. Not sure how the seal stays in? I know there has to be something here I am missing. Help me out this is my first axle rebuild.

Dana 30 seal instead of a Dana 44? Just guessing but the 30 came in older Broncos and was later upgraded in the early 70s to a 44. The computer might list both parts. Might also try a Bronco forum for the correct PN

The old seal will have a number on it. Match it up. Seals and bearings are standardized.
