Over the last couple of weeks, we've had a few heavy rain storms blow throught the Southeast. One day, I noticed my cabin smelling extremely musty. I tracked down the smell to a soaked set of back up clothes I kept behind the rear seat in the right rear corner. Luckily, I'd remove the rear carpet over the summer to spray on a can of cheap bed liner I had lying around.
I tried to figure out were water might be getting in – checked weather stripping on tailgate and along my recently installed hard top & the top's lift gate – but everything looked okay. The weather stripping was a little worn, but seemed to seal okay.
I'm wondering if there's a way water might be entering from beneath the tub. I'm not sure where, because all original steel drain plugs are in place. There are pretty old so maybe water is getting in around the edge of one.
One other thing I thought I'd mention. When installing the top, I removed a chrome trim peice along the upper lip if the tailgate. It was a bit bent up and didn't seem to have any other purpose than decorative. And, since I'm working toward all black vs. chrome accents I removed the tailgate trim piece.
Well, that's my latest dilemma. Any suggestion on keeping my rear dry would be much appreciated.
