Help! Please open your hood and let me know.

I have gotten confused about the wiring on my starter solenoid. (1987 Wrangler 6 cylinder). It is located just below, to the right of the battery. There are two large terminals out the sides and two small terminals out the front on angles. What do you have connected to the two smaller terminals. I need to know which post the Black/white wire with the L-shaped connector goes to...driver's side or passenger side.

Thanks!
Bob

I just went out and looked at Speed's 93 Wrangler. There are only 3 wires going to the starter solenoid (which is connected to the starter).

1. Large wire coming from battery to solenoid.
2. Large wire going from solenoid to starter.
3. A smaller wire going into the wiring harness.

According to my Haynes manual the small wire (14 guage) comes from the starter solenoid (number 3 above) through a plug and then to the Starter Relay.

The Starter Relay has 4 wires.
1. A 10 guage red wire that goes through a 40 Amp fuse then to the battery.
2. A 14 guage Green/White wire that goes to the starter solenoid (number 3 above).
3. A 16 guage Green wire that goes to the ignition switch.
4. A 18 guage Black/White wire that goes to the engine controller and the backup/neutral safety switch.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for but it was fun typing it.

I could answer this question if I can remember how I had the 1987 engine hooked up .. its not quite the same setup as the 1988 was ..

Its more of a CJ setup than a YJ setup (last of the CJ line was shipped out for 1987) .. and if I remember right, out of the two small poles, the left one was for the starter relay .. the right one was not connected to anything. The two large poles, one was from battery, the other to the starter .. solinoid was mounted on the passenger wheel-well ..
