Help me understand gauges

I have been studying up replacing the stock dash in my 1993 YJ. I am having a real hard time understanding how to replace the gauges. I want to know if there are any aftermarket gauges made specifically for a 1993 wrangler. Also,,, would any of the guages match up with aftermarket gauges? If so, which ones would match up and which ones would I have trouble with??

The stock setup wont work, you'd have to do some wire cutting and splicing at the very least.

The stock setup is there's a connector on the back then the connection is taken from the cable to a ribbon board and that connects via screws to the guages.

You might have to do some fabbing to make after markget guages stick, or buy a center thing to support after market guages. I know Quadratec sells one.

Not to be rude but I know what the stock gauges look like and how they are wired. I want to know if there are any aftermarket gauges made specifically for a 1993 wrangler. Also,,, would any of the OEM sending units match up with aftermarket gauges? If so, which ones would match up and which ones would I have trouble with?????? I'll edit my first post.

Let me give you an example what I mean by match up. If you wire a fuel sending unit up to a fuel guage that came from a CJ then your fuel guage will read backwards. That's what I read on this thread . I don't want to hook up an aftermarket guage and have it read different than what it's supposed to.

I hope this clarifies.

Perhaps this will help. If you know what your gauges require, then you will know what it takes to replace them.

Yes. This along the lines of what I'm talking about. Now, When buying these gauges I usually don't see any specs given and I am confused on if a particular gauge will match with the specs shown here. I don't want to throw the dice and hope I get a gauge that will work. These guages get expensive. But I don't mind spending a little more if it's going to work better.

I just replaced my gauges with VDO's, Auto meter will work also. I bought the dash bezels to mount the gauges. The gauges will come in different diameters to match the bezels. The temp and oil gauges have sending units available. I used an electronic spedometer which was easy to program. Speedo, Fuel gauge, and Tach I spliced into the PCM signal wires. Fuel Gauge was OHM specific when I bought it. GM works for Jeep.
Here's the order numbers and price paid. There are better gauges but these work fine and the whole thing cost me about $350.00
Item Qty Price
Gauge Works 15218 - 2-1/16 GAUGE BEZEL 1 US$66.18
Gauge Works 15220 - POD 1 US$64.76
VDO 437153 - VISION SPEEDOMETER 120MPH 1 US$91.32
VDO 333155 - VISION TACH 7000 RPM 1 US$65.54
VDO 332103 - VISION VOLT 12 VOLT ELEC 1 US$17.63
VDO 310105 - VISION 250 WTR TEMP ELEC 1 US$17.63
VDO 350104 - VISION 80 PSI OIL ELEC 1 US$18.52
VDO 301106 - VISION FUEL LEVEL FOR GM 1 US$16.72

One more question. If I wanted to go with an anolog speedometer. Would there be any issues getting speedometer cable to hook up to my 93 yj with my AX-5? I mean since it's electric already is there still a hookup for the speedometer cable? Sorry if this sounds stupid....
