HELP! leaking oil

new prob. with my 95 yj, i've been notcing a clanking sound every time i hit a bump on the underside of my jeep , feels like its right below my feet under the pedals, a little left... i take a look at evreything, nothing seems loes, or broken... then i notice oil dripping on to my left front leaf spring from the area directly above it.... ( no idea whats above it ) ....

i'll try to post up a picture to better illustrate, but any ideas what that could be ?

edit: pics

UPDATE- the clanking noise was fixed ( broken trac bar ) but im still leaking oil from that same spot daily....

my engine oil is good, all coolants, and i checked my clutch fluid today ( from this - http://www.discountjeepparts.com/catalog/images/products/omix/omix-4636865.jpg ) and it was up to the brim....

any ideas what could be leaking? it only leaks when i drive, and right after i stop driving for a little bit.

Check your master cylinder or your clutch linkage. Do you have any leakage from either of those?

Also check in the tub at the top of the clutch pedal at the firewall, if I'm seeing the pic right it looks like its leaking from a seam in the tub .

I agree....no oil should be over there. Maybe cluth fluid. And the clanking is probably a heat shield...either the CAT or maybe one on the body above the exhaust somewhere.

I had a reall bad 'clank' from the rear and it was a loose lower shock bolt, so now that's one of the first things I check. And is the oil leaking from the tub? or is that splatter? if its splatter, could he have blown out that shock?

looks to me like clutch fluid .. have you had to top it up ??

I would check brake and clutch fluid levels .. what ever it is it's leaking from above and looks like it conmes from the tub not engine.

Couple more things to check ..
The tubes going to the evaporator canister located down below the brake booster. If a tube is broken/disconnected and the engine is overfuming there's a chance that oil could drip out a tube.
Is your air filter box oily ?? Could oil be dripping out of there ??

Both of the above mean the CCV system isn't working properly .. if that's the case check it out (there's plenty of info on that on this forum .. very common problem).

Clanking sound...

If you're sure it's right below your feet, only when you hit a bump. The only problem I expierenced was the exhuast downpipe would hit the front driveshaft. See if there's any shiny spots on the driveshaft and exhaust manifold.

Another shot in the dark but not related to right under your feet, I had my rear trackbar actually break off the mount in the rear. Everytime I hit a bump it would go up, then slam back down on the rear end. Same thing happened to my friend so I don't think it was freak accident. That was the end of the trackbar. I'm just saying don't limit your search to just under the floorpan. Goodluck.

Have you tried smelling the fluid, or wiping it to see what color it is?

Motor oil has a distinct smell.
Brake fluid is really slimey feeling.
Clutch fluid is the same as brake fluid.

Have you by any chance filled your Radiator Over-flow bottle too much, or your windshield washer fluid?

My YJ would spit fluid in that same area after hitting a real big bump, or being off-road. It was coming out of the washer-fluid reservoir.

greenish? its antifreeze. i just had that happen over the weekend. i needed a new waterpump. its either the water pump, radiator or the hosees connecting. thats very funny. i could not figure out where the hell this leak was coming from b/c it would stop when i turned the engine off. that leak will only take place when the engine is running because it flows under pressure. it will leak for a lil after u turn the car off b/c its still coolin. but its one of those. get it fixed quick. if u got a pet bring it near it. animals love antifreeze it has a sweet smell to them. but dont let them touch it, the smallest amount will kill them but thats another sure fire test
