Help with dome light

So i've been lurking here for about 6 months since I bought my first jeep. I finally signed up and decided to get some help on a problem I've been chasing. The dome light in the hard top does not work. The bulb is good, I jumped it with my 4-wheeler battery at the tub/top connector. Door pins are connected and work properly for the courtesy lights under the dash. I tested the wires at the tub/top connector on the tub side - one is not hot (ground?) the other one is always hot, doesn't matter if doors are open/closed, ignition on/off, lights on/off, dimmer full/dim.

lots of questions to follow after hunting season - right now I'm busy getting to places on the hunting club Ive never been able to get to before. 12,000 acres is a BIG area.

The door switches turn the light on by grounding the light out on the frame. There is always a hot wire. You are going to have to trace the ground wire back through the harness to see where it runs and/or if it's damaged.

Courtesy lights should always be hot, the ground is what is switched to illuminate them.

Check that your light assembly in the top always has 12V+, if not, make it so it does.

The other wire should go to the ground circuit for the courtesy lights, the ground is made when door switch closes or headlamp switch turned to illuminate the interior lights.

HTH.
