It has started (SBC Swap)

Finally got around to pulling the engine out of my donor (a truck I've owned for 7 years now...).

It's a 95 K1500... 5.7 (NOT Vortec ), 4L60E, 241C.

Hood's gone...

Front Clip...

Strapped up (with a come-a-long and a ratchet strap.... )...

And out...

It'll be at least a whole year before before it goes in the Jeep, but at least it's started!

a year!?. never done a motor swap before, but if it were up to me id have everything done, parts, and research wise, so when it came time for the swap it would only be like a 4-5 day project. but maybe i just have no clue

yours an mine both doug...
what was left of mine got taken away for scrap after i got through with it...
that looks like a real nice trucki to be tearing apart...but hey if you're a millionaire, its all relevent right? j/k...
if i win the lottery, i'd buy a brand new truck off the lot, just to tear it apart and then see the faces of the sales rep when i ask for a trade in value, without a motor/tranny...

It's going to take a year because I have to compile all the parts, build my wiring harness, and go to Iraq again.

I bought a Denali at the begining of the year and don't need the 'burb anymore. We don't drive it, and I don't want to pay the insurance and license for another year.

It's got 150,000 on it and MANY minor problems (not drivetrain related). The money I could have got selling it outright wouldn't cover the money I would spend getting the engine/tranny/xfer for my Jeep. Sooo....

My favorite part is that I've owned it for 7 years now, so I know the drivetrain pretty well. That and my wife gets sad when we get rid of a vehicle (cause we have them for so long), this way part of the suburban lives on

I may consider getting a crate and replacing the engine, but we'll see what it looks like inside before making any decisions.

That is a sweet donor setup. I know what you mean about the donor living on. My donor was part of the family since I was about 6yrs old. My dad still has the pickup box trailer I made out if the rest of it.

You must be at Peterson. They tell you how long your gone for?

I don't envy your deployments one bit. I'll stick with our 4-6 mo. One thing do like is the way you deploy....as a unit. We just grab random people thoughout the AF and stick em together. Its a real PITA.

Yeah, there isn't much to envy about the Army. I was in the Marines for 12 years prior.

This will be my 4th trip (3rd with the Army). And it doesn't get any easier. I'll probably join up with my unit out there in a couple months.
