Has anyone used a LUK clutch kit?

I have to change the clutch and through-out bearing in my heep and was wondering about the LUK brand at Autozone.

Mean Max here on the forum uses that set-up I believe.

I drove his Jeep and the clutch pedal was very strong! It felt as if I were using the clutch in a semi! Well... you get the point, it had plenty of resistance.

As far as performance goes he was very happy with it. I liked it too, you can actually tell when you're pushing in the clutch!

Yes, I do have a Luk clutch kit.

Yes, it does have a very stiff pedal.

Now, I need to clarify something. The pedal on mine is stiffer because of the model Luk kit I used. They make 2 different clutch kits for many (not all) applications (listed below) and I used the 2nd one.

1) Luk RepSet = Original equipment (OEM) quality, stock pedal feel, lower cost.
2) Luk Pro Gold Series = "Performance" clutch with stronger pressure plate springs (reason for stiffer pedal) and also different clutch disc friction material. Priced slightly higher.

I found the best Luk prices at "motherclutcherz" on eBay. My Pro Gold kit was $224 including shipping to my door. This was the entire kit, pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing/hydraulic slave unit, and 2 pilot shaft bearings (to accommodate either the .590" or .750" AX-15 input shaft) and 2 clutch alignment tools (to fit either pilot bearing) and a cool Luk sticker.

Max :cheers2:

LUK clutch pro gold

I just got a LUK clutch pro gold installed in my 03 tj, but now my 4wd won't engage, has anyone experienced this? and does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix it?

I have the oe replacement one on mine and am very pleased with it. The pedal seems a little lighter than the stocker.

I used one in the AX5 on my old 99 TJ.

I was very happy with it. Mine was a little stiffer than stock, but I can't remember which option (if there were any at the time) I went with.

I would bet that the 4wd linkage is binding because of improper reinstall after dropping the tranny to put the clutch in.

Had one in my jeep for 5 years now with nary an issue cept for that one time the trans bolts came up missing.

IIRC luk is one of the largest suppliers of OE clutches out there.

I have always heard that the factory clutches in Wranglers were all LUK brand clutches. Could be a rumor, I'm not 100% sure.

Honestly(and no offense to anyone here) if Max recommends it, I am sold!
