hard starting; mc2100 choke adjust?

Hey all. I put the motorcraft carb on my 87 yj over the summer. I didnt have any problems with it until the weather turned cold. First I noticed that it was idling higher--therefore dieseling--because the choke wasnt opening all the way. So I adjusted the choke, and now I have trouble starting on cold mornings. The engine will turn, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas the rpms drop and it dies. If I give it gas long enough to warm up (like 3-5 min) then it will idle alright. Do I need to adjsut the fast idle cam? Or is my choke just busted? Any suggestion is appreciated.
