hard or soft top?

I'm looking for a jeep with the half-doors and soft-top. But I've found a 1992 Sahara that has 35k original miles (so they say), but comes with a hard-top. If the miles can be varified (somehow), then would it be better to purchase this jeep with low miles, and then change to a soft-top? What about the half-doors (I REALLY like them with low doors)? Would this be too great of an expense?

How do you fellow jeep lovers like your tops?

Personally, I like both soft and hard tops. I have one of each and the hard top is quiet and warmer. I use my jeep for plowing in the winter so warmer to me is better. The soft top is great for the summer because it peels back easily. I think I would prefer the full doors like you setup though. The lower 1/2 doors are nice though because you can just pull the top off. I live in buffalo though so we haven't had the chance to really enjoy summertime just yet. I'd say go for it though. Sounds like a good deal so far considering price...you won't regret the purchase. Go with your gut feeling. Check ebay for lower doors, they go for a pretty cheap price. If not go to your junkyard or Quadratec and they can help.

I love my hardtop for the security (when it is on ), and for winter (my experience with soft tops in the winter have been coooooollllllldddd - but those were all CJ's). If you are not going to keep it, hard tops seem to be a hot item on eBay.

I wouldn't pass up 35K miles just because it had a hard top <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> If the Jeep has the full doors, you could get half-doors and have the painted (hopefully they match - I'm gonna do this when I paint the Jeep in the future) or try to find some for sale that are the same color.

Don't worry about getting a Jeep with a hardtop, even if you won't want it. As said before, Ebay it! That is what I do on the side, is part Jeeps out on Ebay, and I support my hobby entirely that way.

Hey Blamejane, I'd be willing to trade you half doors w/ new tops for your hard doors and a brand new soft top for your hard top if the condition is right(not to mention location) Let me know if you would be interested in such a swap.

'95,2.5L,3spd,3.5",32s- fewer and fewer stock parts left.

Yeah, Because you can swap them out real easy. I mean, if you really want to you can ebay off your hardtop, that'll buy you a nice soft top. Auction off the full doors and you can buy a used set of half doors with money to spare.
