Half door repair question

I bought some half doors that needed a little work. One thing that was broken was the door handle on the inside of door. I took out the one scew that holds the piece in but how do I get that hole piece out with the door handle and lock on it?

Than when I put a new one in wont it need to be connected to something so it will actually open the door?

There will be a rod connecting the back with a little plastic clip. It just snaps off. real easy once you look at it.
