Guess: Oil leak from Accident

Got into a hard smack today during rush hour on one of Buffalo's busiest streets. My fault, following too close at 40 MPH (the legal limit there) The jeep doesn't show a scratch, but the pass front spring was slightly tweaked. HOWEVER all the oil came out somehow. Pretty sure the oil filter got into the engine mount, but that wouldn't cause *all* the oil to come out would it?

Needless to say I'm not a real happy camper. I'll pick it up from the towing company tomorrow. Nobody was injured and I had full comp and collision. The other guy will need a new toyota van, his old one is a foot shorter. The brush guard did its job.

If the engine was running yes it could have pumped most of your oil out. So when you get it home open the hood and check everything closely. Oil filter, oil pressure sending unit, oil pan. If that much came out you will find it but your guess of the oil filter is probably right. Glad your OK!!!!

Sorry to hear, but yeah... Likely the oil filter smacked the mount. Go Bills! (originally from Honeoye)

Used to be a bigger problem on CJs. Just a hard bang off road, like dropping a tire in a hole, would cause the oil filter to get knocked off.

Remote oil filter mounts were popular with serious off roaders at the time, I still have one left over from my CJ days.

Get a new filter, put new oil in and make sure you have good pressure, and check well for leaks.

418 miles on 19 gallons of gas. Can't beat the BBD !

Thanks guys, it was indeed the oil filter. Old4x, I have been wanting one of those remote filter kits for a LONG time but its just never in the budget. I think I'll get one now, since the jeep filter is such a PITA anyhow. Thanks again guys!

PS the tow truck + cleanup was $510 dunno about the fine or ins. yet
