Seems unlikely that bad fluid would cause this probelem, especially if it happened all at once.
As has been stateed before it seems likely the clutch is not disengaging all the way, points to master /slave problem. Just because they are not leaking externally it could be an internal type leak past the seals.

fluid no good...

well actually, it was over a course of a year it got worse and worse, untill I could not shift without a grind. Then I parked it and started driving my truck. At first only between 1st and 2nd, after a few months 2nd and 3rd. It slowly got harder and harder to shift.
You may be right about the master and slave, but the clutch feels good. the hydrolic fluid was not low. I blead the hell out of it and it feels the same...
I'll let you know when I try the new fluid.

I had a similar problem but my daughter who was driving MY JEEP at the time refused to double-clutch it. My slave cylinder was leaking at the time, the shifter was real swimmy and I eventually broke third gear (not a problem, I still had 4 more!) Finally had the new rebuilt tranny installed and slave replaced. Now it runs fine.....

This definitely sounds like synchros.
Try this, when you start to shift from 1st to second, do it real slow and let the rpms settle back to idle then ease it into 2nd. If it goes like this through all gears and doesn't grind but just a little, it's synchros. You may have limited success putting synchromesh in it but if it is as late as it seems it aint gonna help.
Your synchros get the gear you are going into spinning at the same speed as your shaft to prevent grinding. If you double clutch it and let the engine come back to idle and it shifts relatively easy, it is synchros.
Good Luck
Dale

If you can shift through the gear while sittling still and the engine running (clutch pushed in obviously), then I wouls guess that it is probably not a clutch problem. I have heard of new fluid in a tranny making it shift easier (especially when switching to synthetic). But i don't know if it would help in a situation as extreme as this.

I was afraid of that...

Yup, I figured that it was not an easy fix, but I was checking all possibilities.
Thanks everyone for your input.
