Ive got the Holley 2bbl on mine - works great, no complaints - haven't ever stumbled off road, but I haven't taken it off road enough to know how it reacts off camber
My buddy has the Motorcraft carb on his 89 - easiest to tune so far as I've experienced - real good match to a stock 4.2

Same here.

Plus it only cost me 90 bucks to set up. (rebuilt junkyard carb, etc). I'm sure a FI rig does even better, but with the increase in performance and mileage, it's been the most cost-effective mod to my YJ that I've ever made. I bumped the fuel level a bit to compensate for jetting that's a bit on the lean side & it works perfectly off-road.
