I already check the frame out. Poked around with a hammer and screwdriver. No soft spots. There is visable rust on it, but no rotting or soft spots. But I do plan to down the road take the body off and coat the rails with some really thick ****!

Check your frame behind the rear upper shock mounts - there's a pocket there on the top that retains moisture.
I refinished my 94 frame last year and that was the worst rust spot by far, but it still wasn't rusted through all the way. -jd

Welcome to the Flintstone club.
![]() I bought some replacement floor pans from Quadratec, and they worked out with some modification. They don't have enough metal on them to fix your floors though. There's a lot of curved and contoured pieces that you will have to replace in there, so I would have a body shop do it. Unless you just want to angle everything, which would work too. The rest of the body work would take you a day to fix. (P.S. Don't forget to fix your driver's side door handle )

rust
Hello All -
Can someone take 2 minutes & advise the best way to stop rust - ? I have the beginnings on a few interior & one exterior spots - I notice a little around my inside windshield hinges as well. Any/all advice is sincerely appreciated - I just picked up my 93 YJ and am an active member of (& believe in) many forums, this one being the latest addition of which I will become a regular - but just as you all did, I need to start somewhere, right - Thanks in advance! |

Basically you have to get the rust off the area. Their's sanding, a wire brush, cutting the metal out and welding, roloc discs, and about half a dozen other ways to get it off. Basically figure out how you can get it off doing the least damage to the surrounding area. The repaint the area so it doesn't rust again. Or you could just keep grease and/or anti-seize over it. That should keep it from spreading ![]() |

I don't think its that bad - but I won't pretend to know more than I do -
I'll take a few snapshots & see it I can post them to the forum (I think you have to have a certain # of posts to upload pics?!?!), if not I'll have to host them elsewhere & link to them I guess - But I WILL! Thanks - alot!!! |

For the seat rail and the metal piece on the window just pull it off, wire brush and sand the rust off, scuff it, prime it, and paint it with a rattle can. The fender, the rocker the only thing I can think of is to you can really do is abrasivly remove the rust with a wire wheel or something and paint the now bare metal. You'll definatly see the repair though especially done from a rattle can. The rocker looks like it might go through too. For the rockers though you could remove the rust and just get rocker gaurds to hide the area. You might be able to do the same with bigger flares. That windshield frame looks to be pretty damaged. If you can poke holes through it you'll need to weld it up or replace it. If not then you just do the same as above. Problem is the paint once again. Wait for others to chime in with ideas though. Or start another thread about this. |

Any rust that hasn't gotten thru the metal, use a wire brush and remove all the loose stuff. Get POR 15 and a couple of cheepo brushes ( I used chip brushes .50 cents ea). Then wash the area with a water based degreaser( purple power, mean green etc) let it dry and brush on the POR15. POR can ONLY be used on rusty metal or new metal thats been properly etched. POR WILL NOT stick to painted areas or on any oily areas. If you paint over paint with it it will peel right off. I used POR on the surface rust on my floor areas and it is incredable. If you want to repaint the frame or body underside treat rust with POR then use Rustoleum or Chassis Coat to use over painted and POR treated areas.
Rust thru areas need all the rusted metal cut out and new metal put in. I would get the acid to properly etch the new steel insert and then use POR to seal the repair. Then paint to match with a quality topcoat. Oh and buy a small can. It goes a long way and don't use it from the can. I put it in a chinese food plastic container ( clean) and DO NOT GET IT ON YOU! It doesn't come off.
