general info/those terrible trannys...

hey all....I'm in the market for a YJ to use as a winter car and in general as a car to monkey around with.

call me crazy, but there is something about the 89-90 4.2 L jeeps.

If I am looking for a jeep that can drive 2-3 hours up north (in New England) to hit the ski resorts and mess around:

1) Is it foolish to take on a 4.2L for this purpose, even if its in good shape?

2) Those really bad jeep transmissions from the early years, I've heard alot of talk about them. Can someone give me some detailed info about them?

thanks!

drew

Peugot= Peice of Crap.
Get something a little new like a 92+ YJ, the 6 is guranteed to come with fuel injection and the ax-5 ax-15 tranny's are much better.

Is my 89 YJ guaranteed to have one of those Puegot tranny's everyone says suck. I just bought this with 163,000 on it so now I wonder how much it has left. It does shift well until it hits overdrive then back to 3rd then back to overdrive again.

Thanks for the info.
