Sure you can? Why wouldn't you be able to? I recommend 4.88 on the gearing. Most will run 4.88 for the 4cyl with 33's! Since you will be running 35's I highly recomend 4.88.

Good luck! Gear swaps really are with every penny! From performance, to gas mileage, to resell value!! Get it done!

Wouldn't 4.56 be more effective than 4.88s? I would like to be able to drive me jeep around ... Right now i top out at like 50 on a good day with 410s. Thats what me spedo says i know im prob doing like 55 or 60 but I would like to be able to atleast hit 65 or 70.

I am running 4.88 in mine with 33 and running at 70 mph I am sitting at about 3100 rpms! I am going with 35's next year so it should help bring down that number!

Vin91 08-24-2011 02:24 PM

Anyone got any other opinions for me??

zte87 08-24-2011 02:30 PM

4.88 are the lowest you can go and trust me you will need and want the 4.88 with out a doubt!

MLJeeper 08-24-2011 03:21 PM

The difference between the two ratios is not even noticeable by the butt dyno. But every little bit helps. Is there some other reason you are wanting 4.56s? ie do you have a set sitting around already paid for or in line on a good deal? If not go for the 4.88s.

IIRC, 4:88s with 35s will bring your speedo alot closer to actual speed too. When you say top out at 50, do you mean power wise or....? 4:88 will help that a ton. It's also what your profile says your future mods are!!

TheNewbie 08-24-2011 04:03 PM

Why would you want 4.56's over 4.88's? I'd go to 4.88's even with my 33's if I could afford it. For your setup with 35's I'd want to go deeper, but the deepest you can go with the D35 and that carrier is 4.88's. Go for it!

I could care less if my spedo is right lol i just wanna know how fast i can go? Like i would like to get 65 am I'd be happy? You think i can do that with 4.88s an 35s?

Probably wouldn't be a problem. But you would still probably have to plan in advance to pass a slower vehicle.

And again... it would be easier with 4.88 than 4.56's. And especially easier than with the stock gearing. There's not really any debate over this. For a 4 banger with 35's trying to do highway driving either swap to 4.88's or do a motor swap. Those are about your only options.

I can cruise 70 all day long (in 5th gear) with my 33's and 4.88 and know I could with 35's! So like a broken record get he 4.88!

Sent from my iPhone cause I am cool.

That's guys... I just dont wanna drop the money for 4.88s an not be happy you no

How did that effect your gas mileage? In theory lower gears will give you more power, but shift the useful RPM range and cause you to use more gas. But I've also heard that in practice the 2.5 is so underpowered that you actually get better gas mileage.

What were you getting before and after the swap?

zte87 08-24-2011 05:44 PM

I get around 16 mpg mix driving! Before it was a real dog and I could't even use fith gear! My buddy is running 4.56 and 33 and wishes he had goon with the 4.88! And with how slow my jeep is I could't imagine driveing with 35's on anything less than 4.88!

Sent from my iPhone cause I am in my jeep!
