Gas tank skid plate

Can anyone identify this tank skid plate? The price is right and I need to drop my tank. The person selling it got it from a friend blah blah blah. I don't want to spend the cash and find out it will not work.

I think thats just a dress up cover. thats not the actual skid plate. the skid plate holds the tank into the jeep.

Quoted for truth. That piece doesn't have the slots for the gas tank straps...this is a dress-up cover only --- not the actual skid plate.

Its looks like it is for dress up but if it is thick enough and goes over the oem skid it may give you a little extra protection.

Info

I looked at it and I couldn't see how it would have bolted up. I haven't dropped my tank yet so I haven't see what the skid looked like except in the pics I have see here in the FAQ upgrade. Thankyou.

I don't think it is worth the money, won't really provide any added protection.

Do you need a new gas tank skid?
I have one I took off my YJ that I am not using.

Skid

I am putting a 20 gallon plastic tank in the 89. Are the skid is different with the 15 and 20 gallon tank?

No I would not think so. From what I understand they are the same tank.
The vent tube is just different lengths.
Check out the links at the top of the page.

Did you already buy the new tank, you can just mod the one you have and make it hold 20 gallons. I did it to mine

Tank

The tank I have is the metal 15 gallon tank. The vent tube upgrade will only work on the plastic 15 gallon. The 15 gallon plastic tank is the same as the 20 gallon plastic tank. I just need to know if the skids are the same on the metal tank from the earlier model YJ's?
