Gas tank Fell off

I have a 1993 YJ, with 4" lift, 6cyl, Auto.

Well while driving yesterday I heard a clunk and my Gas tank litterly dropped off, Tank is shot, skid plate is junk, The rear Cross member (where the bumperetts attach) actually snapped and that caused the tank to fall, it also ripped the bolts from the middle cross member where the tank attaches. My question is, is there a kit that replaces the Cross members? or just the replacement parts that 4wd has? I can assume Welding is needed... I am looking for a good fix on a tight budget....

Well I bet the most common way are the replacement parts from autorust.

Like a fuel cell? Yes it's possible but you will still have to deal with the rust once the axles fall off.

So Basically my only option is get the replacement rails weld them on cut out rust and do it right the first time and don't look for a cheap fix that will cost me even more!!!

If your rust is so bad that parts of your frame are falling off it needs to be addressed ASAP. Having something like that on the road is dangerous to everyone. First thing I would say to do is crawl under there and go over your frame with a screwdriver. If its as rusted out in other places as it was in the rear you might be better off just buying another frame and swapping everything over

Rust is cancer. There is no quick, cheap, easy fix. It can be made whole and safe again, but will be expensive.

If you can't weld, it may be easier and less expensive in the long run to find a rust free frame and swap it in.

If you got things like a gas tank falling off. I seriously doubt the rust on the rest of the frame is in check. Be on the safe side and do a thorough inspection. One serious law suit will screw your world up. Depending on condition, repairs a pretty simple if you can weld at all.

You don't need to use a stock replacement, and piece of steel will do. I used the front bumper from a CJ for my rear crossmember.

no more ideas. those are your choices. get rid of the rust by cutting and welding plates in, or get rid of the rust by moving your jeep to a clean frame (or sell & buy a replacement jeep)
The idea here is get rid of the rust.

If there is enough rust ('normal' rust???) on the rear that the gas tank falls off, you're most likely going to loose a rear shock mount or shackle mount very soon. front shackle mounts might not be too far behind. Not a pretty sight on a highway.

Hey guys, gas tank straps are paper thin and my original gas tank skid was almost non existant when I upgraded. I had to replace my rear most frame rails and two rear most cross members because they were sheet metal and rusted out as well. Believe it or not, rest of the frame is pretty much perfect.
