Fusible Link

Jeep shut off while coasting into the driveway the other day. No action when I turned the key. I crossed the starter and it cranked so I pulled the battery and mount to get a good look at the starter relay. The fusible link is melted through. Should I be looking somewhere for a short? I would assume so but I don't know where to start. I did trace some wires and see that the PO did some re-wiring. The wires going to/from the ignition switch are spliced together (just barely making contact).

Any suggestions on where to go first?

Forgot to add another question, I don't see it on the wiring diagram that I have, but the fusible link is two wires going to one ring terminal vs. just one wire, where is the other wire coming from?
