The baffels dont matter unless your angled/banked hard and very low on fuel. Getting the fuel pump to fit that has the right pressure is a bigger issue. Why would you want to replace the larger capacity plastic tank with the steel one? What do you have in mind?

If you're going to replace your tank, just make sure you match the new one up to the model year of your jeep so you're ensured the fuel pump will mount correctly. Don't worry about the plastic baffle in the OEM tank. After market doesn't come with it. If you can get a 20 gallon for your year, so much the better. I did and I'm glad.

No, the pre 91 Yj's have a metal tank. You might not even need to replace it. You need to and see where its leaking from. It could be a bad vent or a clamp. You can also use the epoxy repair designed just for gas fuel systems thats available at any good auto parts store.

If the tank is truely beyond repair you can buy a plastic one cheap because they were used on so many Yj's and they doen't rust.

I was one of the lucky ones to already have the 20 gallon poly tank on my Jeep when I did the EFI conversion. All I had to do was to buy a electric pump/sender unit assembly and go. The wires are already ran back there for the electric fuel pump (for the 2.5L fuel injected engines).
(I did have to purchase another tank as that mine had a crack in it from the P.O.)
