Fuel Savings

Anyone ever install aftermarket fuel saving items? such as a throttle body spacer or the Tornado Fuel saver...Also, i keep seeing threads about upgrading to a GM HEI ignition. What are the benefits of this?

Well from what i've seen on tv you should get at least 10 more mpg with the tornado. I haven't seen any throttle body spacers on tv so i can't help ya there. You could also look into the magnetic fuel saver that clips onto your fuel lines. JCWhitney says that it magnetically aligns the "gas" molecules and helps them burn more efficiently. That ought to be good for a few.

If your Jeep is fuel injected, skip the throttle body spacer. Won't make a lick of difference.

those tornados and magnets and gizmo's have all been tested and not one has shown to improve anything.

jury is out on throttle body spacers for me, on a mpi motor it will do nothing. on a tbi , some who have them say they work but i'm not sure if it's wishful thinking or a reality. i have seen alot of claims for these things but personally woudn't bother.

unless the stock ignition is either poorly designed or not functioning correctly, i don't think theres much to gain by an aftermarket. i don't speak from experience on jeeps but i've built quite a few cars, bikes, quads, trucks and have not yet found a stock ignition to be so lacking that i'd replace it, that is unless it's shot, then by all means, upgrade.

the easiest way to up your fuel economy, is not exactly a cheap one. Buy a Honda and dont drive the Jeep as a DD.

There was an article in Popular Mechanics where they tested a bunch of those bolt on gimics. The Tornado actually hurt performance (reduced peak horsepower by 10%), and didn't significantly change fuel consumption.

Wouldnt be caught dead in one of those things!! I had a full size heavy duty Chevy pick up truck before the Jeep and a few cars in between but they were all AMERICAN! Once you go to a truck or SUV, you dont really want to go back to a car. just my opinion

only if its mpi it wont make a difference on tbi the fuel has more room to atomize so it does make a difference
