Siphon gas, remove hoses to the filler neck, remove skid plate, drop the tank, remove fuel pump from tank. Reverse the order to put it back together.

okay well, I think I got everything down but it's going to be too dark to work outside and a little afraid of using the lamp I have because it gives off way too much heat, sooo going to get up early and work on it. Thanks for all your help guys and I will keep you posted.

Just a small note:
Sometime in your Jeeps life... There was a recall on the gasket around the top hole in the gas tank. (the square hole) You should have a rubber gasket about 1/4 inch thick. This is the recalled piece. The thick one is the replacement. If you have a fairly thin gasket there, you're Jeep was never recalled. However after 17 years, if it wasn't recalled, not sure I would worry about it much at this point... This pic shows that gasket. The one in my pic/tank is the "good/thick" gasket. ![]() |

Oh! I almost forgot!
![]() Make sure you do the free 20 gallon tank mod while you're in there! Wrangler YJ Gas Tank Modification 15 to 20 Gallons YJ Gas Tank 15-to-20 Gallon Conversion Personally though, I don't reinstall a short piece of the vent tube back in, I just remove it & chuck it. Yours will be easy to remove though, instead of pulling the hose out the the vent nipple on the tank, just reach inside the tank through the large fuel pump/sending unit hole & pull the hose all the way through to the inside of the tank and remove it through the large hole. I feel so naughty, I said "nipple" on JF!...... ![]() Max ![]()
