Fuel pump died

just bought a used fuel pump assembly to use on my swap and after getting it all done i took it for a ride and when i turned it off it wont run anymore. the pump just clunks everytime you turn the key on but wont hummm and pump fuel. im gonna drop the tank later today and see whats going on.
has anyone bought a new fuel pump from autozone?

We bought one from Car Quest last year and it worked fine. It was not OEM. Make sure to check the electronics and relay before you bother dropping the tank. That, ultimately, was our problem. Fuel pump was fine.

as you know that pump should never clunk. I have swapped out 4 and never had one clunking.

I recommend a Bosch pump

Actually, we got it from Napa, and come to think of it, it was a Bosch. Still have the box.

all that screen stuff can/does break up and could wind up in your fuel pump along with any plastic stuff that came off the internals of the pump which is now in your filter or will be after the fuel brings it there... you do what you want but if it were me I would be changing the filter again so I dont have to change the injectors later if the stuff gets by it or have a plugged up filter down the road.

I just had a similar problem. My fuel pump had power, and it would come on and make a clunk sound once. It did this every time I turned the key, also when I ran power directly to it. I pulled it out and that filter/strainer thing was gone. I'm pretty sure that it came off or fell apart and jammed up the fuel pump.
