Fuel Gauge Question This time..

My Fuel Gauge won't remain still... If the Tank is full it doesn't fluctuate. However once is goes below Full and if the vehicle is shaken or in motion, then it starts to move giving me an inaccurate reading.. What causes that again? I know I need to drop the tank... (I tried to upload a mini video of it but can't figure it out, sorry)

You may want to check the gauge wiring and see if it's cruddy, mucky back there. It sounds like the sending unit works well when full, (Full signal) but perhaps is harder for any corrosion to penetrate when the signal / voltage drops.

I made a thread here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/r...er-how-991307/

But I clearly need to upload the pix here and then link to them - dang it.

Read through that and it should help to get you going - I'll work on the pictures tonight.

Mine bounces all over the place too. You just have to read it when it stops moving!

Mine bounces about a quarter of a tank. Also when full it's well past F and runs out at 1/4 tank according to the gauge. YKYDAYJW only you know how to read your fuel gauge.

Your slider resistor attached to the float arm is either worn out or the brass contacts are thrashed. You need a new one if the wiring checks out ok. Our 89 has an external pump so im not sure if the tank assembly is cheap ($40) or expensive ($100+) with a lift pump and sensor assy.
