Front end Whine

I started getting a whine from the front of my rig yesterday.
The whine gets louder the faster I go, I originally thought it was coming from the engine by the alternator side.

But It doesn't happen with the riigs not moving and I rev the engine.

So i guess its axle related.

It's been raining here and can't check my diff fluid level til saturday.

Would low or no diff fluid cause a whine?

yes it would..... and yes it would definatly hurt/ruin your axle.

however, with a stock front axle, the carrier doesn't spin unless you are in 4wd.... IF the vacuum disconnect was stuck engaged, it would spin the carrier though.... if your front driveshaft spins in 2wd, your disconnect is stuck and the whine very well could be coming from your front diff....

Thanks I didn't realize the carrier wouldn't turn, guess I'll mark my front DS to see if its turning in 2wd and go from there
