So I was driving my jeep today and for some reason it popped into my head that maybe I could put in a bench seat. I was just wondering if anyone had ever done this before. I know I would have some modifications for the seat frames and possibly have to buy a driverside lift frame. But I have a welder and I don't have any problem with modding the frames. And I would have to figure something out with the seatbelts so others can get in the back. I am going to go to the JY and spend a while scoping out some bench seats. I was thinking maybe something out of a small truck, like a Toyota or a Nissan. If anyone has pondered this before or knows of anyone who has done it, I would love to hear about it.

EDIT: I did a little bit more digging and I guess it's been done before and thankfully by a jeepforum member. A seat out of a 92 Dakota was used. I have a summer project now. If anyone has an pointers still, I would live to hear them.

Sent from my iPhone, probably because I am bored at work.

Yeah, I -was- considering that one, as it didn't seem to need much modification. Until I decided to pick up a console...

Yea, the 60/40 bench in a '98+ ranger is the way to go.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I am going to take a look at the JY and see if I can find any in decent shape.

I am interested in a bench seat as well. The girls are Sooo far away with the bucket seats. So the census is a 98+ ranger. Any other options people have found?

Sent from my phone because I'm doing something "more important"

A stock front seat and a stock rear seat will fit side by side. Takes some fab to mount it and its completely redneck, but it'll fit.

I ran this odd setup in my old CJ buggy'ish build. It was really more of a complete beater.

they're rare & hard to find, but I've seen 2 CJ's local to me with factory front 60/40 split bench seats...even seen 2 for sale in the past 5 years. Since CJ/YJ tubs interchange, and the front seats can/do, I'd bet it would be a bolt in if you could find one.

I have a bench seat for the jeep sitting in the barn. Haven't had time to fit it. I was thinking of just attaching it to both existing seat frames. This one has a folding back, so can still access behind the seat stuff. As I have a Scrambler style bulkhead behind the seats and no rear seat, no need for the seat to pivot forward to get in the back.
