front axle shift fork broke

Ah, I knew that the month log break free streek would end soon. Pulled the dreaded vaccuum disconnect today and the shift fork broke as suspected.

This leads to my question.
What , if anything, has any one done to keep this thing engauged all of the time, besides the posi lock or swapping shafts? I rigged my old xj with a couple of sway bar link bushings and screws, but dont have the room to do so on the yj. The fork broke at the shift motor(a.k.a. vaccuum thingy).

i swoped shafts but what we did to my buddies is take a few washers. (3/8" i think) but just pull out the E clips out of the shaft and remover the indicator switch from the one end and tap the shaft out the other side (twords the vacume). rember where the shift fork goes both on the shaft in which side its on to lock in the axle. the put enough washers on the shaft so that it keeps it over to the side you want. then when you bolt everything up, make shure that you are in the center of the two shafts. thats it. plug your vacume lines. the indicator light is the toughest thing. i had a JB conversion on my 231 so i put it in the rear of that where the shift rod can hit it. hope this helps. E-mail me if you need some more help.
