frame repair question

1990 Wrangler.

Picture is of the LR shock mount. Similar hole on the other side too.

I have gone all over the frame, and aside from surface rust this is the only trouble spot. Is it worth cutting off the shock mount, welding on a patch, then putting it back. Or, any other, simpler ideas?

I wonder if there was a hole there originally? If so, it makes me a little less concerned that it got bigger, rather than started from scratch.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I guess I had no other plans for the weekend though.

Be thankful if that's all the rust you have.

Trust me, I am. This jeep lived its first half of life in Massachusetts and the second half in California. There are a few places where the paint on the frame is "puffed up" with rust, but not enough to weaken it. Oddly enough the sheetmetal is all good too.

cheers

I might take you up on that some day. I got this jeep for next to nothing cuz the transmission was dead (auto). So I spent the money to rebuild the trx and engine from scratch. So far have about $3000 in it, so I feel good about the whole thing with everything from the radiator cap down all new and 0/0 miles on it. All stock now and have not thought about any mods until I recharge my wallet.

Have a good holiday
