Flat towing problem - turns wrong way

My buddy has a 92 or 93 YJ. He's changed out about everything possible, but the latest was the front axels (he broke one). He runs a locker up front, either a tru track or detroit not exactly sure. In this latest 'repair' he did away with the electric disconnect on the front right of the axel, so that right axel is now solid and does not disconnect.

Problem now is when you go to flat tow, when the tow rig turns left, the jeep wants to go straight, which results in it actually turning right a bit then the tires dragging until the tow rig straightens up. Obviously not a good thing. (I was riding in the jeep during this 'trial run'.) We also tried it with the driveshaft disconnected up front, but did the same thing.

Although the answer seems obvious to me, i could be wrong. Since the front axel has a locker and the factory disconnect is not there any longer, both wheels turning at same speed want to go straight.

If that's the correct assumption, i would think the only options are to put in an air locker if he does not want to replace the axels again?

to put locking hubs on, would probably have to change out axels again?

any other ideas (not counting trailering - that one's a no brainer but he does not like all the added work involved, neither do i)

thanks!

After reading your post i was thinking that locking hubs would solve this problem but you are probibly right about changing alot of stuff again? I have never put lock outs on a jeep so i would not know. By the sounds of it an air locker would be perfect if he can aford it. heck with an air locker you don't even need to get out of the jeep and you can retain an open diff driving.

yeah. food for thought when modifying your front axel on a YJ! he did not even think that this would happen. to make it worse, another of our buddies did the same thing right after he did, but has not tried towing it yet. he's in for a disappointment as well, it will do the same thing.
