Buy a new fan clutch? Not just you, but I don't understand why people don't grasp the fact that they are there for a reason. A good reason.

A fixed fan is loud and robs horsepower from the engine because it runs at full power all the time. The fan clutch only engages enough power to cool the radiator when needed. It can engage/disengage itself variably to match conditions.

Go to Collins Bros
They still have some OEM Mopar clutches, new old stock for around 50 bucks.
They're actually AC/delco

The fan clutch works by percentage of water pump pulley rotation.
It really is fairly efficient when it needs to be and moves gobs of air when it needs to.
The factory clutch is nicely dialed in especially for hot climates.

Bob uses a fixed flex fan and it seems to work fine as well. The fan blades flatten out as rpm increases.

"robs horsepower"

This should be corrected to it "robs A LOT of horsepower" The fan takes an enormous amount of energy to turn at high RPM. You could probably make a lawn mower engine spin a helicopter blade at low speed with the proper gearing. But you need a 400 HP turbo fan jet engine to turn it at high speed to move enough air for lift. The Jeep fan blade pitch is designed to move alot of air at idle RPM (800 RPM), this takes a few HP to do so (lawn mower). If you run that aggressive of a fan at 3000-3500 RPM without a clutch, you might be talking about using 30 HP just for the fan.

You may also run into problems with overheating on the highway without the clutch. The fan needs to disconnect via clutch because it will beat at the air which is moving faster than it. When permanatnly attached, it would be sapping HP causing the engine to generate more heat, while actually obstructing air from moving through the radiator at moderate to high speeds.

Someday we're going to compare fans side by side.
Are you anywhere near Yosemite or Kings Canyon?
That's my plan for this spring if you (or anyone else) is up for some camping and trails.

Watching a movie.

I am taking some trips though. Because of surgeries every year for the past three, haven't done much.

I'm missing trips due to healing as well. If I didn't have the Jeep to tinker on at good moments I'd be going crazy. Message to the kids... Don't break your spine.

Can we not post videos without posting them on YouTube?

Sorry, I got sidetracked baiting Chris into this and didn't answer your original question.
If you are going to run a mechanical fan, yes, you want a clutch on it. I ran a fixed flex fan and it blew into a million pieces which prompted my exploring the efan options.

I was lucky and was mostly my arms.

I also tinkered with the Jeep.
The car broadsiding me changed my life. Of course they has state minimum insurance and no assets so the bills were/are on me. They were on welfare and that can't be touched.
The protected class.

If your feeling well this spring, consider it.
By this fall I'll have a new diesel RV that sleeps 12.

There it is...The electric fan recommendation.
Two to four times the cost, half the cfm, and five to ten times as many points of failure.

Mechanical fan with clutch, properly shrouded, is far superior to any other system.
